ABOUTA Better Dad is curated by Mark Vickers-Willis, a qualified and experienced educator with a particular passion for social and emotional learning. Mark holds a Master of Education, Master of Teaching, Post Graduate Diploma of Education and Bachelor of Arts (Politics/History) from Australia's leading University, The University of Melbourne. He also has qualifications in Positive Psychology from the University of Pennsylvania.
Mark has worked across cultures and contexts, from remote aboriginal communities of Australia to leading Independent Schools. He has lived and worked in Australia, Canada, Europe and the US and traveled extensively through South America and Asia. He has worked closely with young people in various socio-economic and cultural contexts as a teacher, mentor, coach and guide. During his experiences he realised that there was much useful information that did not find its way into the home, particularly into the hands of fathers. Often men don't have the type of day-to-day support networks that allow for the sharing of vulnerabilities and concerns when they are unsure how to manage issues surrounding their children and family. A Better Dad ties useful threads together in a way that is practical and accessible. Underpinning all good approaches are the fundamental skills of listening and responding with empathy. Something that is often in short supply with the constant, distracting and pervasive forms of modern media and communication. There are many competing messages and expectations for men in the modern world and navigating them is very challenging. A Better Dad is a resource designed to simply and effectively assist men and their families when they need it. |
